Now, about yesterday - I had a good afternoon shooting pictures of waves on an incoming tide, but then I had an incredible evening taking photos around sunset at high tide and particularly some slow exposure pics of the ebb and flow of breaking waves on the beach.

The conditions in the afternoon looked suitable for photos of waves tumbling on the incoming tide. I ventured out to the beach armed with my 100-400mm zoom so taht I could zoom in as tight as I wanted.

After dinner, I ventured out for sunset on East Beach at high tide. This was my first high tide sunset down here and I was aware that getting far enough down the beach to get the setting sun central in my photos was not going to be possible. I opted for looking along the beach and including as much colour from the wispy clouds as that would add interest and colour.

I learnt the art of capturing the ebb and flow of the breaking waves while on my day in Dorset last year with PhotoPlus the Canon magazine and the Canon Pro photographer Jack Lodge, and watching the incoming waves while taking the above photos at sunset prompted me to try similar shots here. With the camera set to a 2secs timer, it comes down to working out when to fire the shutter to get the best ebb and flow. The shot below is my favourite pattern from several very pleasing results.
