Sunny Silverstone

Updated: May 6

Yesterday I went to Silverstone for a small HSCC race meeting featuring the Derek Bell Trophy races, with long time friend Gary Ward racing in a Classic F3 Ralt.

It wasn't a big programme of events, with Classic FF1600's on the bill plus an Allcomers field of sports and saloon cars. All the action was spread over the full GP Circuit, but fortunately it was possible to drive around the perimeter road to gain access to further flung corners.

Both Derek Bell Trophy races were won by Henry Chart in a F5000 Trojan (below), while Gary unfortunately retired from the first race with head gasket failure after leading his class for the first half of the race.

I didn't get to watch the other race action, only their qualifying, and left early after learning that Gary wouldn't be starting race 2. Thereby getting home earlier and saving by cooking at home rather than buying dinner out.

Two of the three Allcomers races were won by Neil Glover, driving a Ligier JSP3, but he then didn't start race 3.
