Short break in Cornwall

With available time looking a bit limited for next couple of weeks, we decided on a three day trip to Cornwall for a short break.

The forecast was reasonable for the time we intended to be there, but the drive down was forecast as being wet and it duly delivered - with torrential rain and poor visibility affecting the drive from Exeter southbound on the A30.

By the time we arrived at Marazion, our first night stop, the sun was out and a sunset looked possible.

Having checked in at our bed & breakfast place and been pleasantly surprised by the place we had chosen, we shot off to the seafront at Marazion hoping for the sunset. The aim there was for sunset glow to highlight St Michael's Mount that lies off the coast and maybe to have a few clouds above to catch that colour. Hopes and reality didn't actually coincide, with no light catching the Mount and a fleeting sunset available looking West towards Penzance.

That was it for the Monday evening, not as hoped for but the next two days were forecast to be better anyway.

After a decent night sleep, we were up and ready early in the hope of catching sunrise at Marazion. The actual sunrise would be to the East and the view out to the Mount is looking South, but my hope was for the rising sun to catch the Mount and to highlight the causeway that leads to the Mount at and near to low tide.

This time, my hopes and reality did actually coincide and I captured the images that I had been visualising. The photo below was taken from on the rocks alongside the causeway.

After this, I hurriedly changed shoes to those suitable for shallow water and went to the water edge to capture wave motion in foreground.

Thereafter, it was back to the causeway as the sun rose further and my car park hour was disappearing.

Then my hour was finished for the payment I made for the car park and it was off to obtain some breakfast.

After breakfast, we decided to head for the Lizard peninsula and found ourselves down at the car park for Kynance Cove - but the walk down to beach level and the subsequent climb back up seemed too much for us to contemplate. So I took the following from the cliff top.

On a previous trip to Cornwall we had planned to visit Cadgwith Cove - a quaint old fishing village that is still active today. Having missed out before and realising we were not far from there, we headed there.

Beautifully organised car parking outside the village, with a footpath from car park to village was what we instantly found. Cadgwith seemed like a step back in time and was really a lovely find.

After driving around to various other places, we tried to finish our day with sunset at Bedruthan Steps - but sadly nature had other ideas and sunset never materialised at our chosen spot due mainly to cloud cover. We had seen sunrise, but the sunset eluded us on this day.
