Creativity at Sunset

The forecast for the coming week is for very showery weather, so with yesterday being a lovely Winter day I opted to make the most of the opportunity to take sunset photos on East Beach.

At this time of year, the sun sets out to sea and the tide was on its way in so my creativity was going to be tested for interesting compositions.

Initially, I set up my tripod looking towards the still bright sun and included one of the wooden groynes to add detail. Plus I particularly liked the sun highlighting the ripples in the foreground.

The incoming tide threatened to give me wet feet as the waves continued to wash further ashore, but I took another similar photo with the wash of those waves filling the foreground before I needed to move.

I took several more looking at the sunset from beyond the groyne, with waves washing in but the colours never really took off. The waves created interesting patterns though and continued to push me further up the beach as they attacked my feet and the tripod.

Thereafter, I was a little limited by the incoming tide for where to position myself but I did realise that at one groyne I could get the tripod lower and use the bottom part of that groyne to frame the photo - pleased with this one and something to work on again in the future.

That was the end of any sunset colour, but I continued to shoot by looking out to sea along the groyne as the waves washed ashore.

and that was it for yesterday evening as the tide pushed me further up the beach and the light faded a little more.

I enjoyed trying to be creative and look for unusual compositions, working around what nature provided and what was available - though I guess a pair of wellington boots might be a good investment soon.
