Dawn of a New Year

What a start to 2019. I had a seemingly crazy idea a couple of weeks ago, to go to Hope Gap, Seaford Head, East Sussex to look along the Seven Sisters cliffs and capture the sunrise. In my mind it was potentially a great photo possibility and my wonderful Wife was fully supportive and encouraged the plan. So we opted for only a little sleep after watching the London fireworks on tv.
The early alarm call definitely interrupted my sleep, but we had a plan to stick to. The good news started when we got outside to the car and noticed clear skies above us - meaning the mainly cloudy weather from last few days had cleared as forecast.
A steady early morning drive got us to Seaford Head at the time we had planned and we set off for a relatively short walk to my intended first photo spot.
A light glow had already started to show above the low lying band of cloud that featured on the horizon as we looked across the sea at Cuckmere Haven.

I took a few photos at this point and then opted to wander down to beach level as the high tide had started to recede.

This lower view yielded some more pleasing photos and then the main glow started to show as the sun rose above the first strata of cloud. It soon became obvious I needed a different view to look straighter at the sunrise, so a quick dash to a different spot followed.

This change of viewpoint gave me a better angle to shoot the sunrise but it took away any interesting foreground options. I continued to shoot until the sun was up far enough to be too bright to look at directly.
I will return on another occasion with suitable weather forecast and when tide times give a lower tide than today.
